Learner Guide

Everything you need to browse courses, earn CE credits, and download certificates on MidwayCME.

Getting Started

Before you can enroll in courses and earn CE credits, you need to create your account and complete your professional profile. A complete profile ensures that your certificates display the correct credential type and that your credits are properly attributed.

Steps

  1. 1Register or log in at the MidwayCME homepage. You can register with your email address and create a password.
  2. 2Complete your profile by navigating to Settings. Add your full name, professional title, and license information.
  3. 3Set your professional title (e.g., MD, DO, PharmD, NP, PA, RN). This determines the type of certificate you receive — physicians (MD/DO) receive a Certificate of Credit, while all other professionals receive a Certificate of Participation.
  4. 4Add your license number and state of licensure if applicable. This information appears on your certificates and can be used for CE Broker reporting.

Tip: You can update your profile at any time from the Settings page in the sidebar. Changes to your title or license information will apply to future certificates.

Browsing the Course Catalog

The course catalog is your starting point for discovering available CME activities. You can access it from the Browse Catalog link in the sidebar navigation.

  • ●Search by keyword — Use the search bar to find courses by title, description, or topic area.
  • ●Filter by activity type — Narrow results to Enduring Materials, Live Activities, or other activity types.
  • ●View course details — Click any course card to see its full description, educational objectives, target audience, credit hours offered, and faculty information.
  • ●Browse series — Some courses are grouped into multi-part series. You can view the series from the Series page to see all included activities.
  • ●Check prerequisites — Some courses within a series may require sequential completion. The course detail page will indicate any ordering requirements.

Enrolling in a Course or Series

Enrollment is how you gain access to a course's content, assessments, and evaluations. Once enrolled, the course appears on your My Courses dashboard where you can track your progress.

Steps

  1. 1Navigate to the course detail page from the catalog or a direct link.
  2. 2Click the Enroll button. If the course is free, you will be enrolled immediately. Paid courses will prompt you to complete payment first.
  3. 3For series enrollment, clicking Enroll on a series will automatically enroll you in all courses within that series.
  4. 4Visit My Courses in the sidebar to see all your enrolled courses, track completion progress, and continue where you left off.

Tip: Your enrollment status and progress are saved automatically. You can leave a course and come back at any time without losing your place.

Completing Assessments (Post-Tests)

Many courses include a post-test assessment to verify your understanding of the material. The assessment typically becomes available after you have completed all required course content.

  • ●Question types — Assessments may include multiple choice (single correct answer), multi-select (choose all that apply), and matching questions (pair items from two columns).
  • ●Passing score — Most assessments require a minimum score of 70% to pass. The required passing score is displayed before you begin.
  • ●Retakes — If you do not pass on your first attempt, you may be allowed to retake the assessment. The number of allowed retakes is set by the course faculty.
  • ●Immediate feedback — After submitting your assessment, you will see your score and which questions you answered correctly or incorrectly.
  • ●Completion requirement — Passing the assessment is typically required before you can earn your certificate and CE credits for the course.

Note: Make sure to review all course materials thoroughly before attempting the assessment. Your answers are submitted when you click the Submit button — there is no auto-save for partially completed assessments.

Completing Evaluations

Course evaluations help faculty and the institution improve the quality of their educational offerings. Many courses require you to complete an evaluation before your certificate is generated.

  • ●When it appears — The evaluation is typically the final step after completing the course content and passing the assessment (if applicable).
  • ●Question formats — Evaluations may include Likert-scale rating questions (e.g., “Strongly Agree” to “Strongly Disagree”), multiple choice, and free-text response fields.
  • ●How your feedback is used — Your evaluation is linked to your account. The education team can see your name with your answers, for example to follow up on a concern. Faculty see your answers without your name. Responses are used to improve future courses.
  • ●Required for certificates — In many courses, completing the evaluation is a prerequisite for receiving your certificate of completion and CE credits.

Downloading Certificates

After completing all course requirements (content, assessment, and evaluation), your certificate is generated automatically and available for download as a PDF.

Viewing Your CE Credits

The CE Credits page provides a consolidated view of all the continuing education credits you have earned across all completed courses on MidwayCME.

  • ●Individual course credits — Each completed course is listed with its credit value, completion date, and certificate status.
  • ●Transcript view — Access a comprehensive transcript of all your completed activities for license renewal documentation.

Attending Live Sessions

Some courses include live, interactive sessions hosted through BigBlueButton (BBB). These sessions allow real-time participation with faculty presenters and other learners.

Joining a session

  1. 1Find the live session from your enrolled course content page or the Live Events page in the sidebar.
  2. 2Click Join Session when the session is active. You will be taken to the BigBlueButton meeting room in a new browser tab.
  3. 3Enable your microphone and/or webcam when prompted. You can participate in chat, polls, and Q&A during the session.

Important details

  • ●Attendance tracking — Your attendance is tracked automatically. You must be present for at least 80% of the session duration to receive credit.
  • ●Recordings — If the session is recorded, the recording will be available after the session ends. You can access recordings from the course content page.
  • ●Screen sharing — The presenter may promote you to share your screen during interactive portions of the session.
  • ●Browser requirements — BigBlueButton works best in modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge). Ensure you have a stable internet connection for the best experience.

Joining from an iPad or iPhone

  • ●Use Safari, which is the browser Apple allows to share your microphone and camera. Update to the latest iPadOS or iOS first.
  • ●Tapping Join Session opens the meeting in the same tab. Use the LMS session page or the back button to return afterwards.
  • ●When Safari asks for microphone and camera permission, choose Allow. If you tapped Don't Allow, open Settings → Safari → Microphone / Camera and set them to Allow, then rejoin.
  • ●Keep Safari in the foreground. Switching apps or locking the screen pauses your audio, and you may need to tap the speaker icon to rejoin audio when you come back.
  • ●Turn off Low Power Mode and connect to Wi-Fi rather than cellular where possible.

Note: Join a few minutes early to test your audio and video. If you experience technical issues, try refreshing the page or switching browsers.
